Begun in 1899, the Cape Cod School of Art started with the artist Charles Hawthorne who founded the facility. Influenced by Monet's impressionistic style, Hawthorne focused on the "notes' of color and "The right notes of color will tell more about the appearance, the likeness of a person, than features or good drawing”. After a couple of closings and re-openings, the school has opened again as of 2010.
